10 Tips for Healthy Skin

10 Ways to Maintain Healthy Skin

We all want healthy, clear and youthful looking skin, although we’re not always sure how to achieve it. We often find ourselves buying a myriad of products to fix our skin issues, although we must realize that what we put in our body is just as important as what we put on it. While using the right products is certainly important, how we treat our bodies has an even larger impact on our ability to maintain healthy skin.

1. Drink plenty of water.

Your skin is an organ just like any other that requires water to function properly. In particular, skin cells that support the production of collagen require proper water intake to work effectively. Water also helps to plump the skin, reducing the appearance of wrinkles and pores. If you are dehydrated, your skin will become dry, appearing flaky and dull. Dehydration also causes pores and wrinkles to appear more pronounced. Therefore make sure you have your daily dose of H20 each day!

2. Consume foods with Antioxidants.

Antioxidants work to protect the body from damage caused by free radicals. Free radicals are molecules produced by natural processes within the body, as well as pollutants in the environment. Consuming fruits and vegetables rich in antioxidants helps to neutralize the effects of free radicals. Below are several antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables you can include in your daily diet:

  • blueberries
  • acai berries
  • spinach
  • kale
  • strawberries
  • walnuts
  • pecans
  • raisins
  • goji berries
  • broccoli

3. Get those zzzzzs

Getting the proper amount of sleep is very important for maintaining healthy skin. Your body undergoes important processes as you sleep including repairing and rejuvenating your skin cells and fighting environmental damage. Without a quality night’s sleep, your body will not be able to complete these processes effectively, resulting in dull, acne-prone skin.

4. Exercise

Exercising is not only important for your overall health, but also for the health of your skin. Working up a sweat helps to rid your body of toxins and impurities, as well as circulate oxygen and nutrients throughout your body. This process leads to more clear, firm and healthy looking skin.

5. Supplements

While vitamins and supplements are not a substitute for a healthy diet, they are necessary to ensure you receive the proper daily values of essential nutrients. Taking a daily vitamin will make sure your body has everything it needs to function at its optimal state.

You can also take supplements which provide specific nutrients to the body. The Polyphenoil supplements are an excellent addition to make to your routine as they contain ceramides which protect and repair the outer layers of the skin, as well as antioxidants. This supplement also helps to boost the immune system and overall health.

6. Develop a Skin Care Routine.

This step is certainly important in achieving healthy skin. Not only are the products you use important, but also the skin care routine you incorporate in the morning and at night. Recognizing your skin type will allow you to create a skin care routine fitting to your skin’s needs. Remember, consistency is key when it comes to your skin care routine. Without a proper routine, your skin’s health will fluctuate and you’ll likely experience frequent breakouts. By incorporating a skin care routine, your skin will  come to expect consistent cleansing, hydration and nutrients each day, making breakouts a less frequent occurrence. 7. Use natural products.

The ingredients you use on your skin are very important because they provide your skin cells with the proper nutrients to stay healthy and work efficiently. You should try to avoid harsh ingredients that may irritate your skin or dry it out. Be sure to read the ingredients list on your products and research ingredients you are not familiar with.

8. Manage your sun exposure.

While healthy amounts of sun exposure allow our bodies to produce vitamin D, we must also take protective measures to prevent skin damage. Make sure you dress appropriately to prevent unnecessary exposure to the sun. You should also use an SPF year around to protect your skin from harmful rays.

9. Keep it simple.

While for some wearing make up is an essential each day, you may want to consider letting your face go bare a few days throughout the week. You can certainly maintain healthy skin and wear makeup, although covering your skin daily will cause your pores to get clogged, reducing your skin’s ability to breath. This will then lead to breakouts. Therefore try to give your skin a few days without makeup. You may also consider incorporating all-natural makeup which contains ingredients that are beneficial to the skin.

10. Hands off!

For me this step is particularly difficult, although try to keep your hands away from your face throughout the day. Stressful moments, nervous habits or simply being distracted can cause us to touch our faces throughout the day without realizing it. Our hands pick up so many germs and bacteria as we touch various objects. Therefore try to avoid transferring those germs to your face- it can create irritation and cause breakouts.

Try incorporating some of these tips into your daily routine and see how your skin changes. If practiced consistently, these steps can do wonders for you skin and your overall health.
